Salvador Molly's

I was the first one on the scene at this Happy Hour, so it was up to me to scout the best location.  The bar section is a little on the...well...little side.  The waiter was very nice and helped me move two of the tall tables together to fit the prospective Happy Hour Tribe.  I ordered a Pirate's beer and waited for my tribal mates.  Midnite Mover was my saving grace.  If it wasn't for her prompt arrival I would have been forced to sit there by myself, fending off the potential looks of, "oh how sad, her friends must have stood her up."  Those looks can cause irreparable damage.  :)  Slowly but surely the rest of the Tribe trickled in.  The Margaritas, Beer and Milk started flowing.  What's with the milk you might ask?  Well it was someone's bright idea, I'll change the names to protect the GUILTY.  HULSE!!!  To order a plate of Balls of Fire.  Hmmm.  I'll break it down, Habanero peppers deep fried and ready to be eaten.  Note to self:  Don't ever try this again!  I split one with new member Karindira.  She cut it in half, (her idea of half meaning a 25/75 split, don't think I didn't notice that miss karindira)  ha ha.  So bombs away, I popped that sucker in my mouth and felt instantanious burning, flames of  burning peppers shooting through my mouth.  Did I mention that it BURNED?!  I  thought I was going to die.  Seriously.  Gave everyone at the table a huge chuckle, so I guess it was worth it.  Talk about taking one for the team.  :)  Anyway,  the appetizers were a little different.  The company was as always, entertaining.  Special Ed even called in to say Hi.  We assured him we weren't having any fun without him.  We suffered it through it right?  ha ha.  It was a fun night.  Sitting next to Peanut is always crazy and she outdid herself with another biting comment about men.  Midnite Mover laughed so hard that tears started flowing.  It was hilarious.  Can't wait til next time.

The first time I went to Salvador Molly's was about the time it opened up.  It's always exciting to go to a new area restaurant that's close by, and since this one had little bottles of hot sauce all over the inside walls from every known corner of the universe, I figured I just had to go check it out.  That was about 15 years ago or so...  Hey!  Ya couldn't go wrong what with the first of the McMenamins Brewpubs, the Hillsdale Tavern,  just next door.

In what used to be a very small hole in the wall back then, Salvador Molly's has grown into three times the space, and added a catering business along with an East Side location.  I'd call that a success.   Salvador Molly's started life as a great place to get the best tasting Tamales this side of the California border, and they seemed to steadily add more and more  Caribbean tastes  as the years went bye.

You can still find the same Tamales, but there is quite a bit more room to stretch out, the service is infinitely better, and the bar tender assured our party that if ya got there Friday nite before 5 you could be rest assured of a place for ten.  And that meant resting assured during happy hour!

As a reward for never having had a bad meal at Salvador Dolly's, their name was added to the coveted Meeting Places

listing  by the unanimous vote of the Recon party present.
